The Phang Nga loop: a full day out of Phuket

Head north off the island across the Sarasin Bridge and the traffic thins almost immediately. Phang Nga province is where Phuket's scenery opens out into limestone karsts and open country roads.

Give yourself a full day. It is a long ride for a scooter — comfortable on a larger motorcycle or in a car, and worth planning fuel stops for.

The viewpoints around Samet Nangshe are the highlight, best in the morning before the haze builds. Bring water and start early.

Ride back before dark. The roads are fast and unlit in places, and the return over the bridge is much easier in daylight.
