What rental insurance in Thailand actually covers
Every vehicle in Thailand carries compulsory third-party cover (พ.ร.บ.). It covers injury to other people — not your vehicle, and not you beyond a small medical amount.
Cars additionally carry first-class insurance, which covers damage to the vehicle and third-party property, subject to an excess you pay on any claim.
Two-wheelers are generally not comprehensively insured. Damage to the scooter or motorcycle itself is usually your responsibility, which is why the deposit exists.
Riding without the correct licence class, or with any alcohol in your system, voids all cover — including the compulsory policy. There is no grey area here.
